About IVAE

IVAE (International Visual Arts Exchange) is a UK-based non-profit organisation. It acts as a unique bridge to support and celebrate cross-cultural exchanges between the East and West in the context of contemporary art. It is an open laboratory that innovates curatorial strategies and diverse methods for artistic practice through the recognition of cultural differences, varied perspectives of understandings, and different approaches to translation. IVAE transcends the constraints of geography and culture, emerges afresh as an inspiring force in contemporary art, a power plant to facilitate and experiment with new forms of knowledge production.

IVAE extends its reach to cities across Asia, Europe and beyond. Just as ‘Ivy’ the plant, which plays a pivotal role in upholding the natural habitats – ensuring the safety, diversity, and sustainability of the ecosystem, IVAE fosters connections and interactions amongst artists, curators, scholars, collectors, and art institutions worldwide. More importantly, IVAE promotes site-specificity and site-sustainability in the context of contemporary art, through production, dissemination and perception. It is ‘adventitious’, taking root in unfamiliar places as part of an evolving existence; it is ‘fluid’, moving across regions, nations, cultures, and creative minds; it is ‘invasive’, growing within ‘other’ lands; and it is ‘transformative’, challenging conventions and inspiring new understandings and alternative interpretations in everyday life.
